Full Description

The main body of the Wickmoor Traditional shaped coffin is woven from natural brown willow and trimmed with the option of either white (W) or buff (B) willow for the lid and handles.

This style coffin was recently added to our range of coffins and named after one of the Moors where we have some of our withy beds growing.

The Wickmoor (W) and Wickmoor (B) are not part of the Design a Coffin section, although toggle fastenings or rope handles can be incorporated if desired.

Each of our willow coffins are beautifully and sensitively hand woven by our skilled basket makers with the utmost care and attention to detail, on our willow farm on the Somerset Levels.

Using the natural willow, we have grown and processed from our own withy beds, each coffin is individual and as a result the colour or finish may differ slightly from the image shown.

Buff willow is natural barked green or brown willow that has been boiled for 8 hours and then stripped of its bark. This produces a smooth rod which has buff orange/brown colour.

Brown willow is green natural willow with its bark left on. It is dried and is green in colour. We use the varieties called Salix Triandra Black Maul or Salix Purpurea Dicky Meadows to weave the main body of the Wickmoor coffin.

Optional items such as nameplates, crosses and matching Ashes caskets are also available.

Please be aware that very often Willow coffins are also referred to as wicker coffins or wicker caskets.
